Southern Island Candles began as a simple hobby and it soon became a passion. Hani, the founder of Southern Island Candles, has always loved the calm and warmth that candles bring so she started experimenting with making her own, carefully selecting and combining ingredients. She spent long hours hand-pouring candles in her kitchen, perfecting blends, mixing colours and experimenting with fragrances. Those fragrances are particularly inspired by Tasmania’s natural environment, her love of all flora and from her life experiences from growing up in Vietnam to working in Tasmania's famous coffee shops.
Hani's friends and family fell in love with her candles, encouraging her to turn her hobby into something more. That began the story of Southern Island Candles.
Her candles are based on soy wax; a more environmentally sustainable and health conscious alternative to the petroleum-based paraffin wax most commonly found in candles. Made from soybeans, soy wax is a renewable resource, non-toxic and biodegradable. As they also produce very little smoke they are more suitable to those conscious of their lung health and for these reasons soy wax candles are quickly becoming more popular.
