2014 was both a very sad year and a very good vintage. With the sad loss of one of the Friends, the 2014 vintage was named in Penny’s honour, and it was a very good wine.
The vineyard has continued to mature over the years and the wines have been consistently good.
They endeavour to make the wine the best they can and will continue to produce a premium, boutique, low volume, high quality wine that is typical of Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
Six Friends is made from grapes grown exclusively at Burnside.
The site is largely frost free and part of the East Coast dry southern climate area and we take a minimal intervention approach to vineyard management.
Picking is on a single day and a highlight for the regulars who help out.
They produce only 150-200 cases a year and we believe that Pinot is a wine that benefits from some years in the bottle. This means they cellar the wine and only release it very slowly with about 4 years of age. The wines are full flavoured when young but do develop beautifully with time.
From the beginning their wine has been made by Alain Rousseau at Frogmore Creek. It is open fermented, oaked for 9 months and bottled for storage.
